COMMENTS: Dr Vesper up by 11:00. His top sheet and pads were wet so I washed them. Into the kitchen for breakfast. After breakfast into the bathroom for sponge bath and clean clothes. Also Dr. Vesper did not use his urinal last night. I think he is a bit confused by the new side of the bed. When I arrived he was laying in the middle of the bed lying the width of the bed. I’m sure he will adjust with time.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was in the living room watching TV.  As always, Michele brought me up to speed on the day’s events.  After she left, I chatted with Dr. Vesper for a bit and began cooking.  There was little to do as the house was in good shape and he requested a simple meal.  He did enjoy a phone conversation with his sister, Mary, just before dinner.  He ate well and his blood glucose level was 131.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, Dr. Vesper returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  He spent most of his time watching Animal Planet.  At bedtime, I gave him his evening medications and waited while he performed his night time toilette.  He required some assistance with his pajamas and getting into bed.  Once he was tucked in, I said good night.

Dinner:     Salad, chicken pot pie, diet cherry 7up, ice cream (Lactaid)

COMMENTS:  Elena fed Kemper and Hillary while I did the grocery shopping. I got Dr. Vesper up, he had morning meds with breakfast. While he ate breakfast, I carried in the groceries and put everything away. He had a sponge bath and dressed after breakfast. Elena helped me get the new 6-sided waterproof mattress cover on. It was a pain to get on (like a large bag with a zipper) but it will be worth the effort. In the afternoon, Dr. Vesper had lunch, did his exercise and watched TV. I finished up a few chores before preparing dinner. Dr. Vesper did a great job cleaning his plate and giving a good glucose reading-115. I did the dishes and set the table for morning breakfast and a.m. meds. Dr. Vesper took his p.m. meds and prepared for bed.

NOTE: Dr. Vesper was still on the right side of the bed when I arrived this morning, he and the bed were both dry, yay! When he was ready to go to bed tonight he asked me “where am I sleeping tonight”, I replied “in your room” and he said “no, I mean which side of the bed.” He remembered the change, a very positive sign.

COMMENTS: Dr. Vesper got up at 10a, I had just arrived and was feeding Kemper and Hillary when Dr. Vesper came walking down the hall from the bathroom. He had removed his wet pajamas in the bathroom, but didn’t know where to find clean ones. I took him back to the bathroom and gave him a sponge bath and helped him get dressed. He had breakfast and took his a.m. meds. He had lunch in the afternoon, then exercise and a nap.  After dinner, he watched Monday night football.  I cleaned up the kitchen and did dishes.  I prepared breakfast and a.m. meds for tomorrow.  He took his p.m. meds and got ready for bed.

NOTE: My brilliant idea last night backfired on me, resulting in a full day of laundry. I moved Dr. Vesper to the other side of the bed last night, but sometime during the night he either rolled back to the other side or got out of bed and walked around to the other side. Unfortunately, I had also moved the washable pad to his new position. The bed was completely soaked this morning, including the top sheet and blanket, as well as the mattress. I use the carpet shampooer (upholstery attachment) on the mattress, which worked very well, but it took all day for the mattress to dry. The mattress cover on his bed is not waterproof, but I went online this afternoon and ordered a full bed/waterproof mattress cover to be delivered on Thursday. I think the change might have been confusing for him and it may take a little time for him to get acclimated.
