COMMENTS: I took care of Kemper & Hillary when I arrived and did chores before getting Dr. Vesper up. He ate breakfast and took his morning meds. After breakfast, I gave him a sponge bath, shave and helped him get dressed. Tom Niehaus came by for a visit this afternoon. He told Dr. Vesper about a couple of mutual friends who had recently asked about him and Dr. Vesper seem to recognize the names and remember the people he was talking about.  After the first 15 minutes, Tom had a hard time engaging Dr. Vesper in conversation. Close to the end of his visit, Dr. Vesper started nodding off. He was very sleepy all day, going in and out of sleep. He did exercise between naps. We made dinner after Jessica and Tyler got back from the playground. After dinner Dr. Vesper watched TV while I sat the table for breakfast and prepared morning meds. He took his p.m. meds and I helped him get ready for bed.

I didn’t find it till a little later in the morning because it had dried out and the odor had dissipated. I got Dr. Vesper up, he had breakfast and took his AM meds. After breakfast, he had a shower and got dressed. Jessica and Tyler left around 1 PM, Tyler stayed with the Gephardt girls while Jessica got a haircut. In the afternoon, Dr. Vesper had lunch, watched TV, exercised and took a nap.  I made dinner when Jessica and Tyler returned home around 6:30. After dinner he watched TV while we cleared the table and loaded the DW. I prepared morning meds and breakfast setup for tomorrow. Dr. Vesper took his pm meds and prepared for bed. Everyone was too tired to stay up to ring in the new year!!

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was relaxing in his recliner.  Stephanie brought me up to speed on the day’s events as he perused his mail.  With everyone gone, it was a quiet start to my shift, and Doctor napped off/on until it was time for dinner.  When he was coming to the table, I realized his clothing was saturated through to the chair pad, so we made a detour to the bathroom.  He did not object as I gave him a quick sponge bath and changed him into fresh clothes.  While on the commode he also produced a very large BM.  By the time he was finished he was very weak and accepted a ride in the wheelchair to the dining room table.  He ate very well and seemed to regain his strength after eating.  His blood glucose level prior to eating was 142.

7:00-9:00.  After dinner, Dr. Vesper used his walker to return to the living room.  I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, took out trash, set out breakfast items and morning medications, and completed the laundry I started earlier.  At bedtime I gave him his evening medication, then accompanied him to the bathroom for his night time routine.  When he was finished, he was quite fatigued and more than ready for bed.  I tucked him in and said goodnight.  Jessica and Tyler returned and I spend a few minutes chatting with them before saying good bye.

Dinner:     Salad, chicken pot pie, and diet cherry 7up.  No dessert.

Sunday, December 29, 2019

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was relaxing in his recliner.  Stephanie M brought me up to speed on the day’s events before she left.  It was a quiet start to my shift as the rest of the family was out enjoying another mild, but very rainy day.  I chatted with Dr. Vesper a bit, took his dinner order, and began cooking. He dozed off and on till it was time to eat.

7:00-9:00     The rest of my shift ran in routine fashion.  After dinner, Dr. Vesper returned to the living room to watch TV while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  In the meantime, Stephanie, Jessica, Danny, and Tyler  had some dinner of their own, then joined Dr. Vesper in the living room for a round of reality TV.  At bedtime, I gave Doctor his evening medication, then accompanied him to the bathroom for his night time toilette.  He was on the commode for quite a while.  Though he seemed ok, he eventually accepted my help in getting back up.  Once in bed, I tucked him in and said good night.  As always, he was very gracious in expressing his appreciation for our help.

Dinner:     Soup, salad,  grilled cheese and salami sandwich, and diet cherry 7up.  No dessert.

Saturday, December 28, 2019

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, I was greeted outside by Danny, Tyler, and Kemper.  They were doing some yard work on this unseasonably warm day.  Inside, Dr. Vesper relaxed in his recliner while Michele brought me up to speed on the day’s event’s.  After she left, Dr. Vesper and I chatted for a bit before I took his dinner order and began cooking.  He enjoyed a hearty appetite and ate well.  His blood glucose level prior to eating was 140.

7:00-9:00     Just as Dr. Vesper finished dinner, Jessica, Danny, and Tyler joined him at the table with a carry out meal.  After a few minutes, he elected to return to his recliner where he would be more comfortable while they finished eating.  I cleaned the kitchen and microwave oven, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning  medications.  When the Fiesta Bowl came on, Danny joined Dr. Vesper in rooting for the Ohio State Buckeyes.  At bedtime, I gave Doctor his evening medications and assisted him to the bathroom for his night time routine.  It took him quite a while and he was visibly fatigued when finished.  I got him tucked in and said good night.

Dinner:     Salad, crab cake, peas, corn, wild rice, garlic toast, and diet cherry 7up.  No dessert.

Visitors:     Jessica, Danny, and Tyler
