5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was napping in his recliner.  Stephanie and I chatted about the day’s events before she left.  I woke Doctor briefly to say hello and take his dinner order.  He stated he had no appetite and asked if I would wait to start dinner.  When it was time to eat, he ate slowly, but enjoyed a hearty appetite, completing his entire meal.  I gave him his evening medication when he was finished eating.

7:00-9:00     The remainder of my shift ran in quiet, routine fashion.  Dr. Vesper returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  Despite my efforts to engage him in conversation, he continued to alternate between watching TV and sleeping.  At bedtime, I assisted him to the bathroom for his night time routine.  He needed the wheelchair as he seemed very fatigued and unsteady on his feet.  He sat on the commode for a while and had a bowel movement.  When he was finished, he was able to ambulate, with lots of encouragement, back to his bedroom.  I helped him into bed, tucked him in, and said good night.

Dinner:     Salad, crab cake, corn, wild rice, toaster corn bread round, and diet cherry 7up.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was napping in his recliner.  Michele brought me up to speed on the day’s events before she left.  I woke Doctor to say hello, see if he needed any thing, and took his dinner order.  When it was time to eat, I helped him out of his recliner and it was quickly apparent that he was soaked through and needed a clothing change.  He was quite fatigued after that and opted for a wheelchair ride from the bathroom to the dining room table.  Just as I was serving dinner, Stephanie came and joined us at the table.  Dr. Vesper was fairly quiet, but had a good appetite and enjoyed her company.  I attempted twice to get a blood glucose value on Dr. Vesper’s meter, but got the “E-7” error code both times.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, I gave Dr. Vesper his evening medications and helped him back to his recliner.  While he alternated between napping and watching TV, I cleaned the kitchen and microwave oven, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  With Mossy on the phone, Stephanie and I worked out the operation of the security system keypad.  She was passing this information on to Andrew so he could lock up for the evening.  At bed time, I assisted Dr. Vesper to the bathroom, then to the bedroom where I said good night.  Stephanie left when Andrew arrived all around this same time.

Dinner:     Salad, meat loaf, mashed potatoes, peas, croissant roll, and diet cherry 7up.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was napping in his recliner.  He woke long enough to say hello, but fell back to sleep a few moments later.  Stephanie brought me up to speed on the day’s events before she left.  I began prepping his dinner salad , then woke him again to see what he would like as a main course.  I reminded him that he had not read his WS Journal, but he was more interested in napping.  His sister, Mary, called just before dinner was ready and he enjoyed a brief conversation with her.  Once at the table, he ate well, but couldn’t finish his entire meal.  His blood glucose level prior to eating was 124.

7:00-9:00     The remainder of my shift ran in quiet, routine fashion.  Dr. Vesper returned to the living room for more napping and TV.  I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, took out trash, set out breakfast items and morning medications, and folded items in the dryer.  At bedtime I gave Doctor his evening medications, then assisted him to the bathroom for his night time routine.  He did request a wheelchair ride from the bathroom to the bedroom, but otherwise used his walker the entire evening.  I helped him into bed, tucked him in, and said good night.

Dinner:     Salad, baked salmon, mashed potatoes, peas, toaster corn bread round, and diet cherry 7up.

5:000-7:00     Dr. Vesper was sleeping soundly in his recliner when I arrived.  Stephanie M and I discussed the day’s events before she left.  While Doctor slept, I folded a few items from the dryer, put blankets on the bed, emptied the dishwasher in the kitchen on the east wing of the house, and began prepping the dinner salad.  When he woke, I took Dr. Vesper’s meal order and began cooking.  He ate fairly well, but was unable to complete his entire meal.

7:00-9:00     Dr. Vesper was still seated at the table when Stephanie arrived for a surprise visit.  Together we got him into the wheelchair, then outside to enjoy a beautiful summer evening.  While she took him on a long ride up the lane to the gate, I returned inside to clean the kitchen, wash the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  I suddenly got very busy with cleaning as both Hillary and Kemper managed to get sick at the same time.  After Stephanie and Dr. Vesper returned from their walk, he relaxed in his recliner until bedtime.  He was able to ambulate to the bathroom where I assisted him with his evening routine.  He was extremely tired and requested a ride to the bedroom.  Once in bed I tucked him in and said good night.  He did receive his night time medication after he ate.

Dinner:     Salad, sweet and sour chicken, wild rice, dinner roll, diet cherry 7 up.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was napping in his recliner.  He woke briefly and said hello.  Michele and I discussed the day’s events before she left.  Jennifer and her crew made it over one at a time to say hello and gather various items in preparation for Stephanie’s birthday dinner, which they were cooking in the kitchen in the eastern wing of the house.  Stephanie and her family came by shortly after that and said hello while I set up for tomorrow’s breakfast.  Before dinner was served, I took Doctor to the bathroom and then back to the dinner table.  The family dined in the eastern wing while Dr. Vesper and I enjoyed a delicious dinner in the main dining room.  He enjoyed a hearty appetite and ate everything on his plate.  His blood glucose level prior to eating was 113.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, Dr. Vesper returned to the living room while I washed a few dishes.  Jennifer brought us each a slice of birthday cake before the family came over to open gifts for Stephanie.   Everyone enjoyed a wonderful celebration, though Doctor was nodding off near the end.  Once the party was over and everyone said good bye, I took him to the bathroom where I assisted him with his evening routine, then to the bedroom where I tucked him in and said good night.  He did receive his night time medication earlier in the evening.

Dinner:     Salad, grilled steak, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, diet cherry 7 up, and chocolate birthday cake.

Visitors:     Stephanie, Andrew, Lily, Sophie, Charlotte, Jennifer, Tom, Jake, Chase, and Mary Lou.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was relaxing in his recliner.  While Stephanie brought me up to speed on the day’s events, he perused the Wall Street Journal, then fell asleep.  I woke him briefly to take his dinner order and began cooking.  When it was time to eat, he had a decent appetite and slowly finished most of his meal.  His blood glucose level prior to eating was 139.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, Dr. Vesper returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  It was a very quiet evening with him alternating between slumber and watching TV.  At bedtime I gave him his evening medication and assisted him in the bathroom with his night time routine.  He needed some help getting off the commode and opted for a wheelchair ride to his bedroom.  I helped him get into bed, tucked him in, and said goodnight.  As always, he was very appreciative of all our help.

Dinner:     Salad, chicken cordon bleu, wild rice, peas, garlic bread, and diet cherry 7up.
