5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Rose and Dr. Vesper were relaxing in the living room.  Lucy brought me up to speed on the day’s events before leaving.  I folded a couple of items left in the dryer, readied the bathroom for Rose’s night time routine, chatted with Mossy regarding a temporary change in Dr. Vesper’s evening medication (elevated INR), took Doctor’s dinner order, set the table, and began cooking.  Rose and Dr. Vesper both ate well, though the going was very slow for Rose.  Because she kept sliding down in her chair, I had to make several adjustments.  Dr. Vesper’s blood glucose level prior to eating was 91.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, Rose and Dr. Vesper returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  I gave them their evening medications, then took Rose to the bathroom for her night time toilette.  I washed her face and hands, then brushed and flossed (about half) her teeth.  She was extremely rigid during all phases of our routine and tended to push backwards seemingly in an effort to achieve a supine position.  She tolerated my efforts to counter that and we got through it safely.  Her Depends were wet and she produced nothing more while on the commode.  Once in bed she appeared comfortable and I applied her eye drops easily.  I waited while Dr. Vesper performed his night time routine and made it to the bedroom, then said good night to them both.

Dinner:     Salad, soup, and grilled cheese sandwiches.  Rose drank kefir milk, and Dr. Vesper had diet cherry 7up.  They both had ice cream (Lactaid) for dessert.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Rose and Dr. Vesper were relaxing in the living room.  Caregiver Stephanie and I chatted about the day’s events before she left.  I set the table, took Dr. Vesper’s dinner order, and began cooking.  I checked Doctor’s blood glucose level prior to his first bite, which was 101.  Though the going was slow for Rose, they both seemed to enjoy hearty appetites.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, they returned to the living room while I followed my usual routine.  I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  Just as I was giving them their evening medications, Stephanie and Andrew arrived to return Dr. Vesper’s car.  They were only able to stay for a short visit, but it was fun to see Rose respond so positively to her daughter’s presence.  I then took Rose to the bathroom where I washed her face and hands, then brushed her teeth.  She allowed no flossing tonight.  Once on the lift, I removed her Depends, which were saturated through to her pants.  While seated, she produced a large bowel movement which had started in her Depends.  As always, she tolerated clean up well.  I took her to bed and applied her eye drops easily.  I waited till Dr. Vesper finished his night time routine, then said good night to them both.

Dinner:     Salad, orange chicken with peas, carrots, and rice, cranberry salad, and garlic bread.  Rose drank kefir milk and Dr. Vesper had diet cherry 7up.  They both had ice cream (Lactaid) for dessert.

Visitors:     Stephanie and Andrew

Note to caregivers:     I broke one of the glass parfait cups in the kitchen.  I cleaned thoroughly, however, it did splinter.  I took out the trash containing the broken glass, but please keep an eye out for loose shards.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Rose and Dr. Vesper were relaxing in the living room.  Michele brought me up to speed on the day’s events before she left.  She had set the table and prepped the dinner salad which made an easy start to my shift.  Dr. Vesper stated he was hungry, so I took his dinner order and began cooking.  Rose slept soundly until it was time for dinner.  Prior to eating, I checked Dr. Vesper’s blood glucose level.  I had some difficulty at the first attempt.  Dr. Vesper stated the finger prick hurt and it did not produce enough blood to get a reading on the test strip.  I changed the lancet and tried again on another finger.  Our second attempt was much more comfortable and wielded an adequate amount of blood.  The monitor displayed a reading of 101, but then flashed the E-6 error code.  I later scrolled through the device memory, which recorded the 101 value for today’s date and time.  I am unsure why the error code was displayed unless it pertained to our first attempt.

7:00-9:00     After eating a hearty dinner, Rose and Doctor returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen and microwave, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  I gave them both their evening medications, then took Rose to the bathroom for her night time toilette.  I washed her face and hands, then brushed and flossed (25%) her teeth.  She was very rigid while changing her clothes.  I heard Dr. Vesper come down the hall, so Rose and I vacated the bathroom to allow him to finish his night time routine.  Once he was in bed, I got Rose on the lift and changed her wet Depends.  She urinated only while seated.  When we were finished, I got Rose to bed and applied her eye drops easily.  I tucked them both in before saying good night.

Dinner:     Salad, crab cakes, wild rice, peas, and corn bread toaster rounds.  Rose drank kefir milk and Dr. Vesper had diet cherry 7up.  They both had ice cream (Lactaid) for dessert.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Rose and Dr. Vesper were relaxing in the living room.  Lucy and I chatted for a few minutes about the day’s events before she left.  Doctor stated he was getting hungry, so I set the table and began cooking.  Though the going was slow, he and Rose both enjoyed hearty appetites and ate well.  Dr. Vesper’s blood glucose level prior to eating was 99.

7:00-9:00     After dinner but while still at the table,  Dr. Vesper spoke with Jennifer for several minutes.  Rose seemed to enjoy their conversation and became very chatty every time he spoke.  They both returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen and microwave, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  I gave them their evening medications, then took Rose to the bathroom for her night time toilette.  We followed our usual routine beginning with me washing her face and hands, then brushing her teeth.  She allowed no flossing tonight.  I changed her wet Depends and she produced nothing more while on the commode.  I got her to bed and applied her eye drops easily.  Dr. Vesper began his night time routine and was in bed shortly after.  I said good night to them both.

Dinner:     Salad, meatloaf, and a “hodgepodge” of leftovers including potatoes, green beans, rice, peas, garlic bread, and toaster corn cake.  For dessert Rose had ice cream, but Dr. Vesper declined.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Rose and Dr. Vesper were relaxing in the living room.  Caregiver Stephanie brought me up to speed on the day’s events before leaving.  I took Doctor’s dinner order, set the table, and began cooking.  Rose generally napped until it was time to eat.  She and Dr. Vesper both ate well.  Dr. Vesper’s blood glucose level prior to eating was 98.

7:00-9:00     The remainder of my shift ran in quiet routine fashion.  After dinner, Rose and Dr. Vesper returned to the living room.  I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes,  and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  I gave them both their evening medications, then took Rose to the bathroom for her night time toilette.  She was quite rigid as I changed her clothes.  I washed her face and hands, then brushed and flossed (half) her teeth.  I changed her damp Depends and she had a moderate bowel movement while seated.  Once in bed, I applied her eye drops easily.  I waited till Dr. Vesper completed his night time routine, then said good night to them both.

Dinner:     Salad, sweet and sour chicken, jasmine rice, and garlic bread.  Rose drank kefir milk and Dr. Vesper had diet cherry 7up.  They both had ice cream (Lactaid) for dessert.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was watching TV in the living room while Rose and Mossy were in the kitchen.  They were finishing the preparations for a hearty home cooked meal.  The table was also set leaving me very little to do during the early part of my shift.  Not only did I appreciate this, but it also allowed Mossy and I a few minutes to catch up on some of the minutia involved with caring for Rose and Doctor and other household tasks.  While we chatted, I finished the dinner salads, and after Mossy left, brought Rose and Dr. Vesper to the dinner table.  Though the going was slow, particularly with Rose, they both enjoyed hearty appetites, and completed all of their meal.  Dr. Vesper’s blood glucose level prior to eating was 97.

7:00-9:00     The rest of my shift ran in quiet, routine fashion.  After dinner, Rose and Dr. Vesper returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  I had just given them both their evening medications when Dr. Vesper decided to go to the bathroom before Rose to complete his night time routine.  This worked out well, giving Rose and me plenty of time.  We followed our usual pattern beginning with me washing her face and hands, then brushing and flossing (about half) her teeth.  I changed her wet Depends and she urinated only while on the commode.  I gave her half dose of Philips Milk of Magnesia per Mossy’s instruction.  Once in bed I applied her eye drops easily, tucked them both in, then said good night.

Dinner:     Salad, baked pork chops with stuffing, green beans and potatoes, and toaster corn bread rounds.  Rose drank kefir milk and Dr. Vesper had diet cherry 7up.  Rose had ice cream for dessert, but Dr. Vesper declined stating he was “too full!”

Note:     Caregivers, please don’t allow Dr. Vesper late snacks as this may skew his pre-dinner blood glucose readings.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was in the living room, while Rose and Lucy were in the bathroom finishing Rose’s afternoon toileting.  Lucy brought me up to speed on the day’s events before leaving.  I washed and put away a few dishes used earlier, set the table,  and the three of us enjoyed a leisurely dinner courtesy of Frisch’s.  The going was quite slow for Rose as she fell asleep immediately after the bathroom break.  I had some difficulty keeping her awake and had to prompt her frequently.  She did ultimately eat all of her meal.  Dr. Vesper’s blood glucose level prior to eating was 140.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, Rose and Doctor returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  I gave them both their evening medications, then took Rose to the bathroom for her night time toilette.  I washed her face and hands, then brushed and flossed (about 75%) her teeth.  She continued to be very sleepy and unfocused, yet rigid.  I changed her damp Depends and she produced a small stool while seated.  The area on her left buttock about which I was concerned appears to be improving.  I applied triple antibiotic.  I took Rose to bed and applied her eye drops easily.  Dr. Vesper performed his night time routine and came to bed right after I tucked Rose in.

Dinner:     Tossed salad, Brawny Lad sandwich (LJV), Buddy Boy sandwich (RV), and onion rings.  Rose drank kefir milk and Dr. Vesper had a chocolate shake.  Rose also had a scoop of ice cream for dessert.
