5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Rose and Dr. Vesper were relaxing in the living room.  Stephanie and I chatted a few minutes while she brought me up to speed on the day’s events.  As I was clocking in, Koenig arrived to deliver the repaired tractor and mower.  Stephanie met with the driver and collected the invoice.  After they left, Dr. Vesper stated he was hungry, so I took his dinner order and began cooking.  He and Rose both ate well, though the going was very slow for Rose.  Doctor’s blood glucose level prior to the start of his meal was 151.  I reminded him that he had an elevated level yesterday morning (150) and that it was in his best interest to allow me to give him insulin, but he refused.  He promised that he would let Mossy give it to him tomorrow morning if he has another high reading.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  I gave them their evening medications, then took Rose to the bathroom for her night time toilette.  She was fairly alert and rigid as I changed her clothes, washed her face and hands, then brushed and flossed (about 50%) her teeth.  I changed her wet Depends and she urinated while seated, but still no BM.  Because her last was Friday and she seemed uncomfortable, I gave her a dose of Phillips milk of magnesia.  I got her to bed and applied her eye drops easily.  I waited while Dr. Vesper finished his night time routine and then said good bye.

Dinner:     Salad, sweet and sour chicken, wild rice, peas, and naan bread.  Rose drank kefir milk and Dr. Vesper had diet cherry 7up.  Rose had ice cream for dessert, but Dr. Vesper declined.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived Rose and Dr. Vesper were relaxing/watching TV in the living room.  Caregiver Stephanie brought me up to speed on the day’s events before she left.  Dr. Vesper stated he was hungry, so I took his dinner order and began cooking.  Rose napped until it was time to eat, but woke easily.  She was more focused than the night before and they both ate well.  Throughout my shift I encouraged Dr. Vesper to drink more water.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, Rose and Dr. Vesper returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  Rose had a brief episode of coughing, but that subsided after a few drinks of water.   I gave them their evening medications, then took Rose to the bathroom for her night time toilette.  I washed her face and hands, then brushed her teeth.  She remained more alert, but was rigid, tight lipped, and allowed no flossing.  I removed her wet Depends and she urinated only while on the commode.  I applied triple antibiotic cream to her left heel before putting on her footie.  Once in bed, she relaxed fully and I applied her eye drops easily.  She was asleep before I said good night.  I waited while Dr. Vesper completed his night time routine and said good night to him.

Dinner:     Salad, ham steak with pineapple, glazed apples, and garlic bread.  Rose drank kefir milk and Dr. Vesper had diet cherry 7up.  They both had ice cream (Lactaid) for dessert.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Rose and Dr. Vesper were relaxing in the living room.  Michele brought me up to speed on the day’s events before she left.  As Rose napped, I chatted with Dr. Vesper, took his dinner order, set the table, and began cooking.  Once dinner was served, Dr. Vesper ate well, but Rose was very lethargic and unfocused, requiring more prompting than usual.  She eventually ate most of her meal.  Dr. Vesper’s blood glucose level prior to eating was 95.

7:00-9:00     The remainder of my shift ran in very quiet, routine fashion.  After dinner Rose and Dr. Vesper returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  I gave them their evening medications, then took Rose to the bathroom for her night time toilette.  She remained unfocused and rigid as I washed her face and hands, then brushed and flossed (50%) her teeth.  I changed her wet depends and she produced nothing more while seated on the commode.  I got her to bed and applied her eye drops easily.  She relaxed and dropped off to sleep almost immediately.  I waited while Dr. Vesper completed his night time routine, then said good bye to him.

Dinner:     Salad, chicken cordon bleu, wild rice, peas, and garlic bread.  Rose drank kefir milk and Dr. Vesper had diet cherry 7up.  They both had ice cream (Lactaid) for dessert.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Rose and Dr. Vesper were relaxing in the living room.  Stephanie and I chatted for a few minutes before she left for the day.  I took out the trash, obtained Dr. Vesper’s dinner order, and began cooking.  Rose napped until dinner was served.  She was somewhat difficult to rouse, and remained unfocused throughout the meal.  Though the going was slow, she and Dr. Vesper ultimately ate well.  Doctor’s blood glucose level was elevated at 155 prior to the start of his meal.  He refused insulin, stating his numbers have been good.  According to the log, this is an accurate comment.

7:00-9:00     The remainder of my shift ran in quiet, routine fashion.  Rose and Dr. Vesper returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  I gave them their evening medications, then took Rose to the bathroom for her night time toilette.  She was more chatty and alert as I washed her face and hands, then brushed and flossed (25%) her teeth.  She remained fairly upright on the commode and produced a moderately large bowel movement.  After clean up, I took her to bed and applied her eye drops easily.  I waited while Dr. Vesper completed his night time routine, then said good bye to them both.

Dinner:     Salad, crab cakes, peas, wild rice, and toaster corn bread rounds.  Rose drank kefir milk and Dr. Vesper had diet cherry 7up.  They both had ice cream (Lactaid) for dessert.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Rose and Dr. Vesper were relaxing in the living room.  Caregiver Stephanie brought me up to speed on the day’s events before leaving.  Dr. Vesper stated he was hungry, so I took his dinner order and began cooking.  Stephanie stopped by briefly around this time as well.  Rose napped soundly until it was time to eat, but it was not difficult to wake her.  She and Dr. Vesper both ate well.

7:00-9:00     The remainder of my shift ran in quiet, routine fashion.  Rose and Doctor returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  I gave them their evening medications, then took Rose to the bathroom for her night time toilette.  I washed her face and hands, then brushed and flossed (about 25%) her teeth.  Though rigid while changing her, she was completely limp while on the commode, literally sleeping the entire time.  I think the Claritin given earlier had quite a sedative effect.  She had a small stool in her Depends and produced another while seated on the commode.  She also urinated, with some of it finding it’s way onto the floor as her legs were splayed and her torso leaning severely to the left in an attempt to recline.  When we were finished, I got Rose into bed and applied her eye drops. I don’t think my efforts were very effective as she was sleeping while in the lift and being lowered into bed.  I never saw her open her eyes and she snored heavily the moment her head touched the pillow.  Dr. Vesper was already in bed when we got there and did not want to get back up.  Like the night before, I reminded him several times in between tasks that he might want use the bathroom before Rose, but he declined.  I tucked them both in and said good night.

Dinner:    Hamburgers (courtesy of Stephanie), pasta salad, green beans, peas, and orange Jello salad.  Rose drank kefir milk, and Dr. Vesper had diet cherry 7up.  They both had ice cream for dessert. (Lactaid)

Note:     Caregivers, please go outside with Kemper (or use the leash) if the pool cover is off.  We are trying to keep Kemper out of the pool as his hair clogs the filters and he is very prone to ear infections.  Thank you!

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Rose and Dr. Vesper were relaxing in the living room.  Michele helped me sort through the mail and brought me up to speed on the day’s events before she left.  Dr. Vesper stated he was hungry so I set the table, cleaned the microwave, and started dinner immediately.  Stephanie, Charlotte, and a friend arrived for a visit and swim, bringing with them some grilled hamburgers and hotdogs.  Because I had already begun cooking, we’ll serve those another night.  When dinner was ready, Rose and Doctor both enjoyed hearty appetites, completing their entire meals.  Dr. Vesper’s blood glucose level prior to eating was 108.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, Rose and Doctor returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and  set out breakfast items and morning medications.  Andrew and Sophie stopped by briefly to drop off the truck, but they didn’t stay to swim.  I gave Rose and Dr. Vesper their evening medications then took Rose to the bathroom for her night time toilette.  I washed her face and hands, then brushed her teeth.  She allowed a thorough brushing, but no flossing.  Once on the commode, I changed a heavily soiled Depends.  Rose continued to move her bowels while on the commode.  Clean up was lengthy and very tedious, but Rose tolerated it well, as always.  I encouraged Dr. Vesper to use the bathroom several times in between tasks as I knew we might be there a while, but he declined.  When he was ready, I was unable to accommodate him, so he went to bed without doing his usual routine.  Usually he will get back up when this happens, but was too tired tonight.  I got Rose to bed and applied her eye drops easily.  I tucked them both in and said good night.

Dinner:     Salad, sweet and sour chicken, jasmine rice, and garlic bread.  Rose drank kefir milk and Dr. Vesper had diet cherry 7up.  They both had ice cream (Lactaid) for dessert.

Visitors:     Stephanie, Charlotte, and friend, then Andrew and Sophie.

4:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper  was in the living room watching TV and Rose in the kitchen area with Mossy.  We chatted briefly about the day’s events before she left.  I fed Kemper, set the table, then took Rose to the bathroom for her 4:30 toileting.  I changed her wet Depends and she urinated only while seated.  I returned her to the living room to hold hands with Dr. Vesper.  She slept soundly as I cooked until dinner was ready.   Once at the table, she was quite alert and they both ate well.  Dr. Vesper’s blood glucose level prior to eating was 119.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, Rose and Dr. Vesper returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  I gave them both their evening medications, then took Rose to the bathroom for her night time toilette.   I followed our usual routine beginning with washing her face and hands, then brushing and flossing (all) her teeth.  I heard Dr. Vesper padding down the hall, so we vacated the bathroom for a few minutes to allow him to complete his night time routine.  When he was in bed I got Rose on the commode where I changed her damp Depends.  There was a trace of stool, but no significant bowel movement.  I took her to bed and applied her eye drops easily before saying good night to them both.

Dinner:     Salad, sweet and sour chicken, jasmine rice, peas, and garlic bread.  Rose drank kefir milk and Dr. Vesper had diet 7up.  They both had ice cream (Lactaid) for dessert.

Note:     After dinner Rose was as bright and interactive as I have seen during the pm shift in a long while.  She was chatty and responded when asked questions, made eye contact,  and laughed when appropriate.  She was rigid while changing her clothes, but stayed upright while on the commode during her last toileting.  I so enjoy those moments!
