5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was in his recliner watching TV.  While he perused his mail, Michele brought me up to speed on the day’s events.  After she left, I chatted with Dr. Vesper and took his dinner order.  I inquired about his lunch yesterday at Cooper’s Hawk, but unfortunately, he had no recall of it.   He requested a simple supper, so it was a very quiet start to my shift.  It was a beautiful afternoon and I tried twice to talk him into a short walk outside, but he was content to watch TV.  When dinner was served, Dr. Vesper enjoyed a hearty appetite.  His blood glucose level prior to eating was 115.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, Doctor returned to the living room for an evening of watching horse racing and a variety college sports.  I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  I also touched up the bathroom and lightly vacuumed the kitchen, living, and dining areas (shedding season!).  The stick vacuum was clogged, but I was able to clear it.  After that, I sat with Dr. Vesper till it was time to get ready for bed.  I gave him his night time medications, waited while he went to the bathroom, then assisted him into bed.  I tucked him in and said good night.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was relaxing in his recliner watching TV.  Stephanie M and I discussed the day’s events before she left.  After chatting with Dr. Vesper for a few minutes, I took his dinner order, and began dinner prep.  Also at this time, we caregivers participated in a brief group text to ensure we are all on the same page when it comes to Dr. Vesper’s exercise regiment.  When dinner was served, Dr. Vesper ate slowly, but well.  His blood glucose level prior to eating was 124.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, but while still at the table, Dr. Vesper and I did arm exercises with the free weights.  He seemed to enjoy this.  Afterward, he returned to the living room to watch a “MASH” marathon on TV.  I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  At bedtime I gave him his evening medications, then waited while he performed his routine.  When he came out of the bathroom, he appeared suddenly very fatigued and said he was quite ready for bed.  I tucked him in and said good night.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was relaxing in his recliner.  As always, Michele updated me on the day’s events before leaving.  I chatted with Dr. Vesper for a few minutes, touched up the bathroom, took Doctor’s dinner request, and began cooking.  He requested a simple meal, but it took him a while to complete it.

7:00-9:00     The remainder of my shift ran in very quiet, routine fashion.  After dinner, Dr. Vesper returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  At bed time I gave him his evening medications and waited while he performed his routine.  He seemed very fatigued and eager to get some sleep.  I tucked him in and said good night.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was in his recliner watching TV.  Michele and I chatted about the day’s events before she left.  I sat and talked with Dr. Vesper for a few minutes, took his dinner order, and began cooking.  He stated he was hungry, and ate well, but very slowly.  His blood glucose level prior to eating was 122.

7:00-9:00     The remainder of my shift ran in quiet, routine fashion.  After dinner, Dr. Vesper watched more television while I cleaned the kitchen and microwave, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  At bedtime, I gave Dr. Vesper his evening medications and waited while he performed his night time routine.  He wanted to return to the living room  to watch the television and expressed his displeasure when I reminded him my shift was over.  I offered to talk to his daughters and Home Instead about possibly adjusting the hours as the days grow longer, but he said he didn’t mind the bedtime.  What he troubles him is he feels he can get himself to bed safely those nights he wants to stay up.    I tucked him in, talked a few minutes longer,  left the bedroom TV on, and said good night.

Dinner:     Salad, chicken cordon bleu, rice, peas, diet 7up, and ice cream.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was in the living room watching TV.  As he perused his mail, Stephanie M. and I discussed the events of the day.  After she left, I took Doctor’s dinner order and began cooking.  He stated he was hungry and enjoyed a hearty appetite.  During dinner, he received a call from Jessica, which always brightens his mood.  Dr. Vesper’s blood glucose level prior to eating was 106.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, Dr. Vesper returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, set out breakfast items and morning medications, took out the trash, and touched up the bathroom.  At bedtime, I gave him his evening medications and waited while he performed his bedtime routine.  Once in bed, I tucked him in and said good night.  He requested that I leave the bedside light on, but wanted the TV off.  I offered to bring him some reading material, but he declined.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was in his recliner watching TV.  Stephanie M brought me up to speed on the day’s events before leaving.  I chatted with Dr. Vesper for a bit, took his dinner order, and began cooking.  He made his way to the bathroom, then to the table when dinner was served.  He ate well and continued to sit at the table when he was finished with his feet propped up in another chair.  He appeared quite comfortable with his headphones!

7:00-9:00     After a time, Dr. Vesper returned to the living room as I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  Other than a brief phone call from his sister, Mary, it was a quiet evening of TV watching.  At bedtime, I gave him his night time medication, then waited as he finished his bathroom routine.  Once in bed, I tucked him in before saying good night.

Dinner:     Salad, tomato soup, grilled ham and cheese, diet 7up, and ice cream (Lactaid).

3:00-6:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was relaxing in his chair watching TV.  While he went through his mail, Stephanie and I discussed the day’s events.  After she left, Doctor and I chatted for a few minutes, but it was an otherwise very quiet  shift.  At one point, as he made his way to the bathroom, I noticed his Depends had leaked.  I assisted him in changing his pajama bottoms and robe.  Once he was finished in the bathroom, he walked around the kitchen island a couple of time, then made his way back to his recliner. At 4:00 I fed Kemper and replenished his water bowl.  At dinner time I took Dr. Vesper’s  order, set the table, and began cooking.  He ate well and his blood sugar level prior to eating was 121.

6:00-9:00     After dinner, Dr. Vesper went to the bathroom again before returning to his recliner.  He spent the evening watching one of his favorite sitcoms, “Two and a Half Men.”  I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  At bedtime, I gave him his evening medications, then waited while he performed his night time routine.  Once he was tucked in bed, I said good night.  He requested that I leave the TV on.
