5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was in the living room visiting with Stephanie and Lily.  As they said their goodbyes, Michele brought me up to speed on the day’s events.  After everyone left, Doctor stated he was getting hungry, so I took his dinner order and began cooking.  He ate well, but was fairly quiet throughout the meal.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, Dr. Vesper returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  Around this time he needed to use the bathroom, so I followed him down the hall with the wheelchair.  He used the commode and brushed his teeth unassisted, but was extremely fatigued when finished.  He opted for a ride in the wheelchair to get back to his recliner.  While he watched TV, I finished the kitchen chores and touched up the bathroom.  He was coughing more than earlier in the shift and sounded somewhat “wheezy”, but seemed otherwise comfortable.  At bedtime I gave him his night time medication, wheeled him into the bedroom, and helped him into bed.  With my help, he used the Advair inhaler and stated  it made a big difference.  I tucked him in and said good night.  I spoke to Mossy around this time and informed her that while his appetite was good, Dr. Vesper was more weak and symptomatic by the end of my shift and a visit to his doctor may be indicated.

Dinner:     Salad, sweet and sour chicken, wild rice blend, garlic bread, diet cherry 7up, and ice cream (Lactaid)

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was relaxing in his recliner.  While he perused the WSJ, Michele brought me up to speed on the day’s events.  Shortly after she left, he needed to use the bathroom and wanted to use the wheelchair to get there.  I assisted him onto the commode, but he got himself up and over to the chair when finished.  He went two more times before bedtime during the course of my shift, each time using the wheelchair.  While I was cooking dinner, Stephanie called to say hello and to remind him to watch the Kentucky Derby.  We watched while we ate and he seemed to enjoy discussing the controversial ending.  Dr. Vesper’s blood glucose level prior to eating was 128.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, Doctor returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  I gave him his evening medications, but he was unready for bed and asked if I would stay and watch TV with him.  We enjoyed an additional half hour watching the Smithsonian channel.  His demeanor and strength seemed to improved over the course of the last hour, and by bedtime, he was able to get to the bathroom using his walker and required no assistance from me.  Once in bed, I tucked him in and said good night.  I also gave Kemper his medication before leaving.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was relaxing in his recliner watching TV.   As he perused his mail, Stephanie M brought me up to speed on the day’s events.  Apparently Doctor had a restless night which included a bout of diarrhea, but was feeling much better.  After Stephanie left, I folded some sheets, took Dr. Vesper’s dinner order, and began cooking.  Prior to eating, he made his way to the bathroom.  He was very weak, but refused any direct assistance from me.  He stated he moved his bowels, but had no more diarrhea.  Once at the table, he enjoyed a hearty appetite and ate well.  His blood glucose level prior to eating was 129.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, Dr. Vesper returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  Though still very fatigued, he seemed comfortable watching television till bedtime.  I gave him his evening medication, waited while he performed his night time routine, then helped him into bed before saying good night.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was relaxing in his recliner and chatting on the phone with Jennifer.  Stephanie M brought me up to speed on the day’s events before she left.  Mossy had an Easter dinner for Doctor  from the Honey Baked Ham Company and Stephanie had set the table and begun baking the casseroles.  This made for a very easy start to my shift!  I set the table, made the salad, then served Dr. Vesper when it was ready.  Around this time, he received a call from Mary wishing him a Happy Easter.  He enjoyed a healthy appetite, but it was a rich meal and took him a while to complete.  He persisted till his plate was clean.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, Dr. Vesper returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, took out garbage, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  At bedtime I gave him his evening medications.  Just as he was getting up from his recliner, he received a call from Stephanie and Jessica and we enjoyed a group conversation on speaker phone.  After that, he went to the bathroom to complete his routine, and then I assisted him to bed.  He asked that I leave the TV on, but I heard him turn it off before I left the house.

Dinner:     Salad, honey baked ham, au gratin potatoes, green bean casserole, croissant, diet cherry 7up, and ice cream (Lactaid).

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was relaxing in his recliner watching TV.  Michele brought me up to speed on the day’s events before she left.  Dr. Vesper and I chatted for a few minutes before I took his dinner order.  He seemed less fatigued, but not particularly eager to converse.  When dinner was served, he enjoyed a hearty appetite, even asking for seconds.  His blood sugar level prior to eating was 139.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, Doctor watched TV while at the table, then returned to his recliner.  I cleaned the kitchen and microwave, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast and morning medications.  He received a call from Stephanie which he enjoyed, but it was brief.  He watched collegiate gymnastics and together we cheered on the students’  athleticism.  I was happy to engage him if only for a short while.  At bedtime, I gave him his night time medication, waited while he performed his routine, and assisted him to bed.  He appeared to be very fatigued and stated he was tired.  I tucked him in and said good night.

Dinner:     Salad, meat loaf, macaroni and cheese, peas, garlic toast, diet cherry 7up, and ice cream (Lactaid).

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was in his recliner watching TV.  Stephanie M and I discussed the day’s events before she left.  It was a quiet afternoon and the house was in good shape with little for me to do.  I enjoyed a few minutes of watching the History Channel with Dr. Vesper before taking his dinner order.  Once it was ready, he had a good appetite and his blood glucose level prior to eating was 99.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, Doctor returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  At bedtime, he took his evening medications, then made his way to the bathroom.  When he was finished there, I helped him into bed, tucked him in, and said good night.  He requested that I leave the TV on.  I was nearly out the door when I realized his hearing aid was still in.  I returned to the bedroom and he was still awake.  He did not want to remove it, stating it helped him hear the TV better and that he often leaves it in all night.  I should’ve been more adamant as I am concerned that it could get lost in his bed.  I left Mossy a note to that effect.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was in his recliner watching TV.  Stephanie M spent a few minutes bringing me up to speed on the day’s events before she left.  Dr. Vesper was in a good mood and invited me to watch some collegiate sports with him.  He was especially interested in the gymnastics.  I sat with him for about 10 minutes, then took his dinner order and began cooking.  A few minutes before dinner was ready, I suggested he use the bathroom.  I discovered his robe and pj bottoms were wet.  After he changed, he made his way to the table where he enjoyed a healthy appetite.  Because it was early, I did wash these items of clothing.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, Dr. Vesper returned to the living room for more TV while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  At bedtime I gave him his evening medications.  He appeared suddenly very tired, and I assisted him to the bathroom while he performed his routine.  Once in bed, I tucked him in and said good night.
