5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was relaxing in his recliner.  While he perused his mail, Stephanie M brought me up to speed on the day’s events.  After she left, I folded the clothing in the dryer, took Doctor’s dinner order, and began cooking.  Shortly before it was time to eat, he enjoyed a nice conversation with his sister, Mary.  When dinner was served, he had a good appetite and ate well.  His blood glucose level prior to eating was 125.

7:00-9:00     After dinner,  I helped Dr. Vesper to the bathroom for a fresh pajama change.  He then returned to the living room where he enjoyed a previously aired college football bowl game.  I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  At bedtime I gave him his evening medications, then assisted him back to the bathroom so he could complete his night time routine.  Once in bed, I tucked him in and said good night.  Stephanie G arrived around this time to check on the pool.  We chatted for a few minutes and left the house together.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was relaxing in his recliner.  Stephanie M brought me up to speed on the day’s events before she left.  Dr. Vesper and I chatted for a few minutes and I took his dinner order.  I discovered ale (beer) inadvertently left in the freezer in the east wing kitchen.  It had begun to leak and I cleaned up the spill it had created.  After I finished,  I returned to the other kitchen and began cooking.  Dr. Vesper was fairly quiet throughout the meal, but ate well.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, I noticed Dr. Vesper needed a change of clothes, so I helped him to the bathroom and gave him a fresh pair of pajama bottoms.  He then returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, took out the trash,  and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  At bedtime I gave him his evening medications, waited while he performed his night time routine, then assisted him into bed.  I tucked him in and said good night.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was in the bathroom having just returned from a graduation party.  He was accompanied by Michele and Mossy.  Stephanie and Jennifer were busy preparing for a small evening get together.  Michele spent a few minutes bringing me up to speed on the day’s events before she left.  While everyone else worked, there was little for me to do and I enjoyed spending the first part of my shift chatting with Dr. Vesper.  Once he had an appetite, I set the table and warmed up the food sent home from the earlier party.  Doctor ate well and his blood glucose level prior to eating was 99.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, Dr. Vesper returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  A few of the guests made their way over to say hello.  At bedtime, I gave him his night time medications, then assisted him with his evening routine, changing his clothes, and getting into bed.  It was a long day and he was visibly fatigued.  As always, he was quite gracious when I tucked him in and said good night.

Dinner:     Salad, fried chicken, green beans with cottage ham, macaroni and cheese, diet cherry 7up, and ice cream (Lactaid)

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was relaxing in his recliner.  He perused his mail as Stephanie brought me up to speed on the day’s events.  After she left, Doctor and I chatted for a bit.  It was a beautiful day, and I was hopeful I could talk him into going outside for a few minutes.  He was mildly interested, but then declined.  When it was time, I took his dinner order and began cooking.  He stated he was hungry, but requested a simple supper.  He ate fairly well, but it took him a long time to complete and he was unable to finish his soup.  I offered to reheat it several times, but he declined.  His blood glucose level prior to eating was 118.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, Dr. Vesper returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  At bedtime I gave him his evening medications.  He went to the bathroom unassisted, but was extremely fatigued when he was finished.  He made it to bed using the walker, but needed a little help getting his legs in.  Once he was settled, I tucked him in and said good night.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was relaxing in his recliner watching TV.  Stephanie M brought me up to speed on the day’s events before she left.  It was a quiet afternoon with little to do during the first part of my shift.  When it was time to eat, I took Doctor’s dinner order and began cooking.  Though he said he was hungry, he didn’t eat with his usual gusto and the going was slow.  He seemed interested in anything I had to say, but participated little in real dialogue.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, Dr. Vesper returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  I also touched up the bathroom, took out the garbage, and vacuumed the areas where a few more (dead/dying) insects had come in as a result of the previous spraying outside.  I tried to engage Dr. Vesper again, but he seemed more preoccupied with his hearing aids.  I think after wearing them all day, they became annoying.  We agreed to remove them entirely for the last hour of my shift.  At bedtime I gave him his night time medications.  After he performed his evening routine, I made sure he got to bed safely, tucked him in, and said good night.

Dinner:     Salad, baked lemon pepper tilapia, macaroni and cheese, peas, garlic bread, diet cherry 7up, and ice cream (Lactaid).

4:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was relaxing in his recliner watching TV.  As he perused his mail, Michele brought me up to speed on the day’s events.  The house was in good shape and it was a quiet start to my shift.  I chatted with Dr. Vesper, touched up the bathroom after he used it,  and started dinner when he was ready to eat.  He was fairly quiet, but enjoyed a hearty appetite.  His blood glucose level prior to eating was 159, requiring 2 units of insulin.

7:00-9:00     After dinner, Dr. Vesper returned to the living room while I cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and set out breakfast items and morning medications.  The evening temperatures had dropped and it was a beautiful evening.  I tried my best to convince him to come sit outside for a few minutes, but he stated he was perfectly content where he was.  At bedtime, I gave him his evening medications and waited while he performed his night time routine.  He did not need assistance, but his fatigue was obvious and he stated he was tired as I tucked him in and said good night.

Dinner:     Salad, sweet and sour chicken, jasmine rice with carrots and peas, croissant, diet cherry 7up, and ice cream.

5:00-7:00     When I arrived, Dr. Vesper was relaxing in his recliner.  While he perused his mail, Stephanie M brought me up to speed on the day’s events.  She stated he seemed better today, but his strength waned as the evening went on.  Before dinner was served, he made his way to the bathroom using his walker, but needed assistance changing his wet pajama bottoms and asked to be wheeled to the dining room.  He did eat and drink well and seemed comfortable.  His blood glucose level prior to eating was 108.

7:00-9:00     After dinner,  Dr. Vesper returned to the living room via wheelchair.  He stated he was unable to walk that short distance, but otherwise felt fine.  He had some coughing, but each bout was short lived.  While he watched TV I started a load of laundry, cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, set out breakfast items and morning medications, and touched up the bathroom.   At bedtime I gave him his evening medications, then wheeled him to the bathroom for his night time routine.  I stayed very close by, but he did not require my assistance while on the commode or brushing his teeth.  Once I got him to bed, he was wheezing more and I gave him his Advair inhaler.  This time he felt it was not very effective.  He did one more puff a minute later and thought he felt more comfortable.  I made sure his Proair inhaler was within reach, tucked him in, and said good night.  I hung around a few minutes folding laundry to make sure all was well with him before leaving.

Dinner:     Leftover night!  Salad, sweet and sour chicken, wild rice blend, toaster corn bread round, diet cherry 7up, and ice cream (Lactaid).
