COMMENTS:
I spent the night with Rose last night, because Stephanie was still at Mercy Hospital with Dr. Vesper. He was later transfer to Jewish Hospital, where he was admitted sometime after midnight. Rose did not sleep well last night and as the result, she napped a lot today.  Rose didn’t put up too much  resistance with bathing today, think she was too tired to fight.  Rose did eat well in between naps.

NOTE:
The neurosurgeon is doing a trephine  craniotomy for subdural evacuation tomorrow morning.

COMMENTS:
I made my usual Tuesday pick up at Panera’s and was in new Richmond at 7:30 to relieve Stephanie. Everyone was still sleeping, so I was able to get most of the routine chores completed before getting Rose up.  Rose was dressed and had finished breakfast before Dr. Vesper got up @ 11:15a.  Alan & Veva stopped by for a visit in the afternoon, Veva had picked up a pair of shoes For Dr. Vesper and wanted to drop them off.   A nurse from Humana made a home visit for a post hospital assessment.  Last but not least, Jeannie (Bkkpr) came by to pay a few bills.  After Jeannie left, I spent about 45 minutes assisting Dr. Vesper with his PT,  before starting dinner.    After dinner I cleaned up the kitchen did the dishes and prepared for bedtime routine. Dr. Vesper  require very little assistance today other than  shadow walking.  Rose was her usual  sweet self.

COMMENTS:
I did grocery shopping on my way in this morning. Before getting Rose up, I put away items which needed to go in the refrigerator/freezer.  My plan was to get Rose into the shower while Dr. Vesper was having breakfast.  Since I spent more time than usual assisting Dr. Vesper, I didn’t want Rose to wait any longer for breakfast, so we postponed her shower.  The afternoon was also hectic, Dr. Vesper had a major blood sugar problem in the afternoon. After checking twice and getting a reading over 500, I called Dr. Wilson.  He ordered insulin,  to be picked up at his office. Since Stephanie was working and Andrew was in a meeting, I called Mary Lou. She was more than happy to help out and had the insulin back at the house by 5 o’clock. He  had 15 units, by bedtime it was down to a much safer number. The high blood sugar gave him a tremendous thirst, the combination of drinking lots of water and the inability to rush  accounted for many accidents, which required several change of PJs/clothes. With all the commotion going on, Rose decided to take a nap.  She finally got her shower a little before 5.  Thank goodness; dinner, clean up, p.m. meds and bedtime routine all normal.  I had a very busy evening getting everything ready for the weekend caregivers, lots of notes to leave. We have had a very busy (2) weeks.

NOTE TO CAREGIVERS:
Several notes on counter near pill machine regarding Dr. Vesper, please read carefully. Stephanie (daughter) or her husband Andrew will be staying overnight and will wait for your arrival in the morning. They can address any questions you have, or you may call me @ 513-324-3606

NOTE:
When I arrived Andrew and Kemper were outside waiting on me. I told Andrew I had made a Vet appointment for Kemper in hopes that he could take him. Kemper was limping badly yesterday and could hardly get up off the floor. Since it was Friday, I didn’t want him to go thru the weekend in pain. Fortunately, Andrew had the time to spare. Dr. Miller didn’t find any visible problem and said he thought it was tendinitis. Kemper has medication to take the next (3) days, which Andrew or Stephanie will apply to his morning food.

COMMENTS:
Rose was much better today, she ate well and  was much more alert. However, she did sleep most of the afternoon.   When Dr. Vesper’s physical therapist was here, he noticed Rose watching him and ask her name.  He said hello and introduced himself, she gave him a nice smile and  a flirtatious giggle.  Dr. Vesper complained his cell phone wasn’t charging in the bedroom, so I have been charging it in the kitchen. Not having it in the bedroom  prevents the many alarms from waking him in the morning. I have noticed if he gets up a little later he doesn’t need to go back to bed after breakfast.  I think he gets up early in the morning before caregivers arrive so he can have quiet time for his reading. CAREGIVERS: If he’s still at the table when you arrive in the morning, please give him his space. Alex added several new exercises to his therapy today, he definitely had a good workout.  After therapy, talk to Vesper and had a short nap before dinner. I cleaned up the kitchen and did the dishes while they watch TV. PM meds and bedtime routine all normal.

NOTE:
I noticed Kemper limping today, I checked his right leg and paw, but saw nothing visibly wrong. I called his Vet,  but he was not in the NR office this afternoon, I made an appointment for tomorrow morning.

Many thanks to Elena for pitching in with much needed help today.  She took over for me whenever I needed to help Dr. Vesper.

COMMENTS:
Rose had a bad day, she sat most of the day with her eyes semi closed and her mouth open. She didn’t appear to be in any discomfort, it was difficult getting her to eat, almost like she didn’t understand what I wanted her to do, or she didn’t have the energy to do that normal little task. It took her a long time to open her mouth once the spoon was at her lips. It took a long time, but we successfully completed all meals. Dr. Vesper also had a bad day, said he felt exhausted. He tried to stay up, but finally gave in and went back to bed late afternoon. I thought possibly his therapy was too much for him yesterday, but he said no. His appetite hasn’t been quiet up to par the last few days. He only ate about half of his dinner tonight, but I might have given him too much. Dinner was a little late because of naps. Cleanup, pm meds and a bedtime routine all normal.

COMMENTS:
When I arrived Stephanie was getting Dr. Vesper up and to the table. American Mercy Home Care had arrived for a physical therapy assessment. We were caught off guard since we didn’t know he was coming, said he tried to call but wasn’t able to reach anyone. Evidently we will have the service at home for a few weeks until Dr. Vesper is stronger and able to go back to The Center for Balance for his therapy. His therapist is Alex, they seem to be compatible and I think they will work well together. However, I have requested afternoon therapy on mon-wed-fri in the future. Rose was a little late getting up because I had to spend some time providing Dr. Vesper’s medical information to Alex. Dr. Vesper ate his breakfast while Alex did paperwork, then Alex did his assessment and assigned him (4) exercises to do daily. We were a little out of order today, but since Rose got up so late she had breakfast first and then a shower in the afternoon. They both had afternoon exercise, followed by lunch and late naps. Dinner ran a little late because of naps. Dinner, cleanup, pm meds and bedtime routine all ran smoothly. Andrew came to spend the night, after briefing him on all the alarms, bells and whistles, I locked up and left for the evening.

COMMENTS:
Stephanie spent the night last night and reported all went well. The bed sensor alarm went off a couple of times during the night when he got up to use the urinal, which means it did it’s job. Dr. Vesper was having his breakfast when I arrived. Stephanie drove the tuck and went to the farm. I got Rose up, to the bathroom, dressed and ready for breakfast. Other than a little PT for both of them, they spent a lazy afternoon of napping and watching TV. Andrew stopped by to trade Stephanie’s car for his, he used her car last night to deliver kids. Stephanie and Charlotte brought the truck back after doing barn duty. Dinner, cleanup, p.m. meds and bedtime routine all normal. Rose was tucked in when Stephanie arrived to relieve me. Dr. Vesper was still up watching TV, together we got him tucked in, then chatted a few minutes before I left for the evening.
