Today was Sophie‘s birthday, Stephanie prepare her birthday dinner here and we celebrated with a delicious dinner, cake and ice cream,  followed by cards and gifts.  Dr. Vesper was tired and ready for bed by 10. COMMENTS: Rose remained in bed today and we did all we could to make her comfortable. She had a very light sponge bath and I put on fesh depends and pajamas. Dr. Vesper woke up when I gave Rose medication at 8:30, but he remained in bed with her. We talked for a while and again had the conversation about why we weren’t taking Rose to the emergency room.  He went back to sleep and slept until about 10:15 before getting up for breakfast and morning meds.  The hospice nurse arrived at 1:30, she explained that Rose was actively dying and called the doctor for orders to increase comfort meds. She also requested continuous care and waited for additional nursing staff to arrive. They stayed with Rose and increased her medication accordingly until she passed at 11:57 PM.  The funeral home arrived at 1:45 AM. Hospice nursing staff completed their paperwork left 3:30 AM. I did the dishes and cleaned  the kitchen, set out breakfast items & morning meds for tomorrow.  Dr. Vesper had taken his p.m. meds earlier and had gotten into bed with Rose for her final few moments. Jessica gave him his rosary and he stayed in bed after the funeral home left.

COMMENTS:
I did a few chores before getting Rose up, she ate breakfast and had her am meds. Dr. Vesper got up at noon, had am meds and breakfast.  So much for my fears of him getting up every day at 9 AM!!  After lunch & 2 PM meds, Rose slept until dinner. Dr. Vesper spent the afternoon watching TV and reading, he took a short nap.  I spent most of the afternoon in catch-up mode him yesterday. After dinner, they relaxed & watched TV while I did the dishes and cleaned up the kitchen, set out breakfast items and morning meds for tomorrow. They had their pm meds and followed our routine bedtime schedule.

COMMENTS: Elena  arrived at her normal time of 9:30 to find Dr. Vesper sitting at the table, waiting for breakfast and asking “Where is Mossy?” It’s  a rare occasion to find him up at that hour, she called me out of concern.  I was just finishing up at Kroger‘s and rushed to get home. Elena filled in nicely, as always, made this coffee and retrieve the newspaper for him.  I asked him why he got up so early, said he had been up since 9 AM, just decided he was sleeping too much and would be getting up earlier in the future. This could have been an issue had Elena not been there.  I delayed getting Rose up  because the bath aide was due any minute and I wanted her to see the whole process.  She had tried to call, turned out we an a phone issues.  I had given up and started to prepare without her, when she arrived.  I trained and assisted her through showering & shampooing, Rose initiated her with her usual bm in the shower.  Home instead arrived for client check, very busy afternoon. Elena had a lot of obstacles to work around today, surprised she got anything accomplished. We had a nice relaxing dinner, one of Dr. Vesper’s favorites, cod. I set out breakfast items & morning meds for tomorrow, gave pm meds and  completed bedtime routine.  Rose ate fairly well today, she had a combination of regular food and some baby food.
