Rajeana Smalley – Home Instead Caregiver / Training

COMMENTS:
Rose was very quiet today and appeared to be uncomfortable. She didn’t have a BM again today, so she received her first dose of milk of magnesia w/ 8oz of water at bedtime, per Dr. Wilson’s instructions. Dr. Vesper got up this morning with his cold back again, coughing and runny nose. I called Dr. Wilson immediately, in hopes of catching it before it’s too late. I picked up a Z-pac at Berry’s, which he started this evening.

NOTE:
The office had scheduled a new caregiver for training today, but due to Rose’s discomfort (constipation) I didnt want to put Rose through exercise and getting in and out of the lift any more than absolutely necessary. Rajeana isn’t scheduled to work with Rose until the end of the month, so I will have plenty of time to schedule more training before the 28th. Rajeana is very qualified and seemed comfortable working with Rose, I think she will work out very well.

COMMENTS:
Rose did ok today, she was alert, but seemed distracted, probably due to her continuing constipation issues. When I talked to Dr. Wilson this morning, he wanted to give it one more day and if she didn’t have a good BM today we will start her on milk of magnesia tomorrow, 4Tbs daily until results are achieved. Dr. Vesper had a slow day, nothing much to do except pick up the mail, read the newspapers & watch TV. In a couple of weeks he’ll be in Sanibel enjoying the sunshine, he’s getting excited.

NOTE:
I filled in today, still no Sunday morning caregiver, but I will be training a new caregiver this week????  Susan  relieved me at 3p instead of her normal 5p, because I had made family plans before I knew I was supposed to fill in today.  Thanks Susan for pitching in. COMMENTS:
Rose was very uncomfortable during her shower, as if in pain, but was OK afterwards. I think she might be slightly constipated, she has had mostly small to medium BM’s all week, but nothing major. Dr. Vesper had a busy day, went to church, the gym, dropped off new insurance card information at Dr. Wilson’s office and made a stop at the library, he was pooped and had to take a short nap when you got home. Roberta arrived at 5p to relieve me, she helped me finish up a few things and I brought her up to speed on events of the past (2) weeks before leaving.

I spent time with Elena, showing her what needed to be done. Also, spent time on the computer setting up accounts for both Lee and Rose with Humana and inputting all of their medical information regarding doctors and prescriptions.

VISITORS/WORKERS:
Elena – Clean
Jimmy Smith – called to let me know he was picking up wood outside the gate, but didn’t come to the house
Jeff Mahaffey w/ Mahaffery Masonry, LLC – Sent by Hank Harrington to assess the stone repair needed on the chimney NOTE: Hank called later to say Mahaffrey would be here tomorrow @ 10:30 to start the job. Hank is also sending a glass company to measure for dormer window replacement, will be here @ noon tomorrow.

COMMENTS:
It was kind of hectic with people coming and going and lots of phone calls today, but other than that it was a pretty average day. Rose was quiet the first 3/4 of the day, but a lot more talkative in the evening. She is still trying to figure Elena out, I noticed her observing Elena a few times, but didn’t say anything. Tuesdays and Thursdays are always slow days for Dr. Vesper, especially in the winter. Other then going to pick up the mail, he basically just watch TV until it was time to get ready for Jeannie’s fundraiser. I kept trying to push him, but he said it would only take him a minute to change clothes. I insisted on giving him a haircut, which forced him into showering, which almost made him late, but we got the job done.

COMMENTS:
Rose was quiet in the morning, but talkative in the afternoon and evening, lots of half sentences. In between loads of laundry, Rose received a mani pedi and a foot massage. Dr. Vesper had a busy day, in addition to his usual church and gym he had appointments with his dermatologist and podiatrist, didn’t get home till 5p.

NOTE:
Kemper had an uneventful day, come & donut still in place. I think he is getting spoiled, he likes sleeping in the bedroom and is now sneaking in here during the day for his afternoon nap.

VISITORS/WORKERS:
Tom @ Rusk Heating – Filter change

COMMENTS:
Today was shower day, once that was completed Rose had a very good day. She seemed more alert than usual and participated in conversation several times during the day. I think we’re so used to her not participating, we’re always surprised when she jumps in with a comment. I have been moving Kemper’s bed into the bedroom at night so Dr. Vesper can keep an eye on him, and we were joking about the animals (Hillary & Kemper) taking over. I was putting Rose in bed at the time when she commented “I know, I feel the same way about that”, we both laughed and she joined in. I’m not sure she knew what “that” was, but she definitely thought it was funny. Dr. Vesper was bored to tears today, his only trip outside the house was to pick up the mail and take Kemper out on the leash, he can’t wait for spring. Tom (Rusk) visited with him a while after he changed the furnace filters, I think Dr. Vesper was just happy to have another man around.

NOTE:
Kemper did much better today, the doughnut and the cone together worked much better, the donut keeps him from getting to the cone. At any rate, he wasn’t able to get out of the contraption and seemed to except his fate, I’m sure the Prozac had something to do with that. He doesn’t get his sutures removed until next Friday 2/5, Dr. Miller said if we can keep the cone on as close to that date as possible he will be happy.
